Sand & The Savior!

7/14/2007  By: Lanny Richardson, Project Leader

I have returned home from a great mission in Butler, PA. If you desire to have your mission team touched by relational ministry in a very fruitful venue, then you need to consider taking a mission team to Butler.

The ministry partnership God has connected us with in Butler – Tom Bowser & Fish Bone Ministires is awesome. Tom is a great example of what it means to be JESUS to others.

Because He truly cares for those in difficult situations that the churches of the area are not reaching, the Holy Spirit is leading him to reach many for JESUS in powerful ways.

For example, a new dumptruck of sand in the sandbox drew out many children to come and play in the safe sand. I call it “safe sand” because many moms would not let their kids play in the local sandbox because of needles and glass. The old sand contained broken beer bottles and needles from those doign heroin. You should have seen the eyes and faces of all the children when we brought in new sand. I never saw anything like it in all of my life.

Because of all of the “Acts of Kindness” we were led to undertake during our ATLs, the Holy Spirit drew many to JESUS and salvation. I want to share one salvation story with you that is powerful.

Our Mission Team was led to reach out in many different “Acts of Kindness” to a women who had stage 4 Breast Cancer. She was a very hard woman. Tom and his wife, Sandy, had been trying to reach her for many months. Yet, due to the epressed love through the Mission Team God’s Holy Spirit continued to draw her.

Thursday morning, the Group Leaders from Calvary Chapel Central Bucks delivered a love offering of $625.59 to her. This equalled 1/12 of her yearly income. Lou Anne asked, “Why are you doing this and how can I have this type of love?” Through a period of other questions and answers, she prayed to receive JESUS in her heart. Here is her response, “Is that all I have to do to receive Christ?”

I wish you could have seen her face light up with the joy of the LORD when she asked JESUS to come into her heart. Praise the LORD for sand and salvations!

One theme of this mission would be man’s obedience and God’s Faithfulness.  Because the Mission Team from Calvary Chapel prepared themselves for 14 weeks before the mission week, God blessed their pre-trip planning.  I praise God for “holy, fit vessels”!  What a testimony of what God can do when we make ourselves available to His leadership through the Holy Spirit.
